IMPACT TESTERS 04/03/2022

Impact tests are used in a large number of sectors. They are conducted to learn about the fracture behaviour of products under dynamic loads and, optionally, under varying temperatures.

Impact, fracture testers are used to conduct impact tests on such products and materials as plastics, shoes, pipes, metals etc. There are two methods for conducting impact tests: oscillation method or drop method. With the oscillation method, it is possible to conduct tests with a capacity of up to 50 Joule with a Charpy hammer and up to 22 Joules with an Izod hammer. As for the drop method, it consists of dropping a hammer of a specific weight from heights that vary depending on the nature of the sample and the type of the test.

The most common impact test methods are Charpy and IZOD. The choice of test depends on the relevant standard.
