Some basic information about the Oxidation Induction Time (OIT) Test
The OIT test is meant to determine the starting of the oxidation when a material is heated at a given temperature.
When the material starts to oxidize, it reacts with oxygen and the starting and speed of this reaction is measured under a given temperature.
This helps us understand the oxidation resistance of the material during its useful lifetime.
The higher the OIT value, the more oxidation-stable the material.
The OIT test is an important tool used to determine shelf-life and quality of plastic products, foodstuff, polymers and fats and to optimize their storage conditions and to improve the performance of products.
In addition, it is used in material engineering and quality control processes.
