Some basic information about the Glow Wire Test

The glow wire test is used particularly to determine the fire resistance of electric appliances and equipment.

During the test, a wire (usually a nickel-chrome alloy) is heated by subjecting it to electric current and, once a given temperature has been reached, the wire is brought into contact with a fireproof material to observe the reaction of such material to high temperature and to  determine its fire resistance for fire safety purposes.

The glow wire test is used to ensure compliance of electric equipment with safety standards and to minimize fire risks.
